last week we celebrated nick's birthday and found out that our garden has been awarded first prize in the 2009 city gardens contest (through the pennsylvania horticultural society)!  an awards ceremony to take place at the flower show in march.  we have been busy at work converting one of our planters into a cold frame so that we can grow beets, turnips, radishes, kale, chard, green onions and arugula this fall.
